The Alpenglow of Whitney
I’ve always loved a road trip, and there are few stretches of road in this country that I love more than US 395. As a rock climber making near-weekly pilgrimages up to Bishop, CA for a time, the view of Mt. Whitney from the 395 always gave me the impression of the proximity to adventure- like I was being transported to a place for a time and Whitney was the beacon that I was entering the portal. The early morning light casts a pink-gold glow across the range that I can only describe as magic.
